Legal

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Our commitment to fair treatment for every candidate, client and colleague.

Last reviewed: August 2026

Purpose

Connective Careers Pathways is committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity in everything we do. This policy applies to our own staff and to every candidate, client and worker we deal with.

Protected characteristics

We do not discriminate on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, as set out in the Equality Act 2010. We also do not discriminate on grounds of caring responsibilities, socio-economic background or trade union membership.

Fair recruitment practice

  • Vacancies are assessed against the genuine requirements of the role only.
  • Shortlisting is based on skills, experience and suitability for working with children and young people.
  • We challenge client instructions that would result in unlawful discrimination, and will decline an instruction rather than act on it.
  • Interview and selection information is kept relevant, proportionate and confidential.

Reasonable adjustments

We will make reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, including alternative ways to apply, extra time, accessible formats and adjustments at interview. Tell us what you need and we will arrange it, discussing with the employer only what is necessary and with your agreement.

Criminal records and safer recruitment

Roles in residential childcare require background checks that are proportionate to the role. Criminal record information is considered fairly and on its individual merits, taking into account the nature of the offence, its relevance to the role and the time elapsed, alongside our safeguarding responsibilities. A record does not automatically exclude a candidate.

Monitoring and responsibility

Responsibility for this policy rests with the directors of Connective Careers Pathways. The policy is reviewed at least annually and whenever relevant law or guidance changes.

Raising a concern

If you believe you have been treated unfairly by us, please raise it through our complaints procedure. Concerns are taken seriously, investigated and answered.
